BACKGROUND:
City Boards and Commissions serve an important advisory role by providing recommendations, technical expertise, and community perspective to the City Council on a variety of matters. To effectively fulfill these responsibilities, members benefit from ongoing education regarding their statutory duties, ethical obligations, meeting procedures, and subject-specific responsibilities.
While newly appointed members receive orientation and are required to complete applicable training required by state law, additional educational opportunities are available through various organizations and professional associations or programs.
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this discussion is to review potential training opportunities for City board and commission members and to receive City Council feedback on possible future training priorities.
