Title
Receive an update on the current status of the Animal Adoption Center by Dr. Gerald Pendery, Chairman of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee.

Body
BACKGROUND:
The Animal Adoption Center is a beautiful, well designed facility that is highly regarded as one of the most aesthetically pleasing public animal shelter facilities in North Texas.  It has been visited by many other cities looking for the right formula for a public animal shelter.

The Animal Adoption Center has not euthanized an adoptable animal since June, 2010 and has the longest record in the State of Texas, to our knowledge, for a public municipal animal shelter.  However, in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2014 the shelter was over capacity approximately 71 percent of time.  The large number of multi-family housing projects currently planned (with potentially more to come) will most certainly increase the pet population and further exacerbate the capacity of the Center.  Dr. Gerald Pendery, Animal Shelter Advisory Committee Chair, will discuss these trends along with ideas to address future needs.
