Innovation and Technology Department
BACKGROUND:
The City uses enterprise firewall systems to protect its computer network, online services, and internal systems from cyber threats. These systems act as a security barrier between the City's network and the internet, helping prevent unauthorized access, malware, and other malicious activities. Firewall systems require annual licensing, technical support, and security updates from the manufacturer to continue operating effectively and to receive the latest protection against evolving cyber threats.
DISCUSSION:
Renewing the licensing, support, and maintenance ensures that the City's firewall systems remain fully supported and continue receiving critical security updates, threat intelligence, and manufacturer support if issues arise. Cyber threats constantly evolve, and firewall updates help protect City systems from new vulnerabilities and attack methods. Without active licensing and support, the City would lose access to security updates and manufacturer assistance, significantly increasing the risk of cyber incidents. Not renewing this could expose City systems to potential disruptions, unauthorized access to sensitive information, or service interruptions affecting staff and residents. Maintaining current cybersecurity protections is essential to safeguarding City operations, public services, and sensitive data.
Although the amount falls within the City Manager's authority to approve, City policy necessitates reaffirmation by the City Council. Approval of Resolution No. 2026-050 will reaffirm the City's authorization of the agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT:
