Title
Consider approving Ordinance No. 3893 amending the Code of Ordinances Chapter 82, Article II, Division 5 Stop and Yield, Section 82-73 Stop Sign Location by authorizing the placement of a four-way stop at the intersection of Dennis Lane and Longmeade Drive and take appropriate action.
Body
REQUESTERS:
Public Works
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works and Police Departments collaborated to install a four-way stop at the intersection of Dennis Lane and Longmeade Drive. The current ordinance specifies a stop sign for vehicles traveling northwest on Longmeade Drive at the intersection with Dennis Lane. There are no stop signs by ordinance for traffic moving in both directions on Dennis Lane at this intersection, nor is there a stop sign for vehicles exiting the parking lot at Farmers Branch Park. Due to traffic concerns in the area, the addition of a four-way stop to this intersection would minimize safety concerns with the crossing at Farmers Branch Park as well as cross traffic coming from Dennis Lane.
DISCUSSION:
Staff reviewed traffic concerns within this area and deemed the addition of a four-way stop an acceptable measure for dealing with safety concerns for pedestrians and cross traffic. The four-way stop was installed before school started in August 2024 to ensure minimal disruption of school traffic flow.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Budgeted Financial impact from Streets Sign Maintenance and Repair account.
