BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch uses maps and location data to support many services, including planning new developments, maintaining streets and utilities, and improving emergency response. Having the most current and accurate maps helps City staff work more efficiently and make more informed decisions.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) offers cities the opportunity to share the cost of creating these high-quality maps and data through its Spatial Data Cooperative Program, which provides participating cities with access to high-quality aerial imagery, GIS datasets (such as parcels, roads, and infrastructure), and mapping tools. By pooling resources, the City of Farmers Branch can reduce costs, improve data accuracy, and support planning, public safety, engineering, and development decisions.

DISCUSSION:
Through this agreement, the City will receive updated aerial photography, elevation data, and other detailed mapping information. These resources will help staff identify buildings, streets, sidewalks, driveways, and trees with high accuracy.

This information is used daily by multiple City departments, including Planning, Public Works, and Public Safety, and supports better long-term planning for growth and infrastructure.

The cost of this program will not exceed $21,000, covering the City's share of the regional project. The agreement will automatically renew each year unless either party provides notice to end participation.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Budgeted amount of $21,000 approved as part of the FY 2025-26 operating budget.
