BACKGROUND:
The City owns and is the permit holder for Camelot Landfill, a Type I municipal solid waste disposal facility, located in Lewisville, Texas. Landfill gas collection systems are installed at municipal solid waste landfills to collect and combust the landfill gas, thereby minimizing the potential for odors and controlling a potential source of groundwater pollution. To date, the City has a landfill gas collection system comprised of 130 wells, piping, a gas condensate collection system, and a flare.
Phase H will be for the design and engineering of the eighth installment of landfill gas collection wells at the facility, which will ultimately include the installation of vertical extraction wells, horizontal collectors, and wellheads, as well as a connection to the existing gas collection system and flare. The project is a regulatory requirement due to the age of the waste material. In addition, it aligns with the City Council Strategic Plan Goal 5 - to provide functional, sustainable, and well-maintained infrastructure, facilities, and equipment.
DISCUSSION:
Weaver Consultants Group, LLC has the personnel and experience to design landfill gas collection systems. They provide this service for many clients in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Moreover, the firm designed all five previous landfill gas collection system installations and improvements and provided construction quality assurance during those projects.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This is a budgeted item from FY 25-26 in the amount of $220,408.
