BACKGROUND:
The current City Council Travel Policy was adopted in 2009. Since its adoption, there have been no amendments to the policy. The updated Travel Policy provides greater detail regarding travel expenses and approved reimbursements and closely aligns with the City’s personnel travel policy.
A draft of the Travel Policy was presented to the City Council at its December 10, 2024, meeting. Based on the feedback from the City Council outlined below, the Travel Policy has been amended to include the following items, which are attached for Council consideration.
• Clarification that a Councilmember referred to in the policy includes the Mayor.
• Travel requests and expenses shall be approved by the City Council Travel Review Committee.
• Should a Councilmember choose not to participate in meals offered at a conference or event, reimbursement for additional meals after that event will not be reimbursed.
• Language from the City Attorney regarding reimbursement of general expenses incurred by a Councilmember that the Council stipend is intended to offset.
