BACKGROUND:
Boards and Commissions play a vital role in strengthening local government by fostering civic engagement, providing specialized expertise, and serving as an important link between the community and the City Council. Composed of volunteer residents, these advisory bodies offer diverse perspectives, evaluate issues within their areas of focus, and provide informed recommendations that support thoughtful and transparent decision-making. Their work enhances public participation in the governance process, promotes community trust, and enables the City to leverage residents' knowledge and experience while advancing strategic priorities and delivering effective public services.
In accordance with the City's annual Boards, Commissions, and Committees appointment process, the City Council conducts an annual review of vacancies and eligible reappointments to ensure continued resident participation on the City's advisory boards, which provide valuable input and recommendations on matters affecting the community.
The City Council held its annual appointments workshop on June 30, 2026, to review applications, discuss current vacancies, and consider reappointments of eligible members whose terms will be expiring.
For the 2026 appointment cycle, the City received 29 applications for appointment consideration, and 35 members were eligible for reappointment. Based on the Council's discussion and appointment exercise during the workshop, a proposed Slate List has been prepared for formal consideration.
