Receive an update on potential additions to the water rebate program

BACKGROUND:
The water conservation subcommittee has recommended two water rebate programs that have been enacted by the City. The subcommittee and other members of the committee have mentioned other ideas to expand the rebate program. Sustainability staff have met with the Community Services department, who oversees building inspections and code enforcement, to get more information on these systems to provide to the committee. The three suggested additions to the rebate program include hot water recirculating pumps, tankless water heaters, and xeriscaping.
Staff will provide an update on the discussion with Community Services and the committee can discuss if they would like to continue to research adding these systems to the water rebate program.
Committee members should consider the environmental benefits, financial value, and perceived rate of adoption in their discussion. It should be noted that some of the systems may save water, but potentially increase energy costs.
