Body

BACKGROUND:

On May 20, 2024, at 11:49 p.m., Farmers Branch Fire Department Quint 133 and Medic 133 were dispatched to a person needing a lift assist. Upon crew arrival, the crew found the patient on the floor with no obvious signs of distress. The crew helped the patient to their chair.  By that time, the patient stated their arm was becoming itchy. Within moments, the patient became unresponsive, pulseless, and apneic. Crews immediately moved the patient onto the stretcher and started CPR.

While conducting CPR, the patient was hooked up to the LifePak 15 monitor.  The patient showed to be in pulseless electrical activity (PEA). Approximately two minutes later, the patient began to grunt in pain and began to breathe. CPR was stopped, and the LifePak 15 monitor showed the patient to have a normal sinus rhythm. The patient was then moved to the ambulance for transportation.

While en route to Medical City Las Colinas, the patient’s complete vitals were taken, and it was shown that the patient had low blood pressure. An IV was established, and medication was given to increase the blood pressure. Throughout the transport, the patient was alert and responsive.

Later that week, the person was discharged from the hospital on May 24, 2024.

This would not be possible without the medical direction from Dr. Northeim, BEST EMS, Field Training Officers, Medical Simulation Program, and the EMS Captain.

At tonight’s City Council Meeting, Medical City Las Colinas will recognize Farmers Branch Fire Department Q133 - Captain Kyle Green, Driver Michael Smith, Field Training Officer Jarred List and Medic 133- FF/Paramedic Korey Cox and FF/Paramedic Noah Morrill.
