BACKGROUND:
In FY 2025-26, the Fire Department budgeted $129,700 for the purchase, replacement, cleaning, repair, and inspection of bunker gear. This amount covers the cost of end-of-life bunker gear sets, including helmets, jackets, gloves, pants, and boots, as well as outfitting new firefighters to replace those retiring or resigning. The total accounts for an anticipated 10% increase from the vendor, effective in November 2025.
As part of the Fire Department’s bunker gear replacement program, the Fire Department is due to replace gear according to “NFPA 1851 Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting” in FY 2025-2026.
The Fire Department will spend over $100,000 with Casco Industries, Inc. (Casco), which requires Council approval. This purchase is made through the City’s cooperative purchasing agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (BuyBoard), and Casco is also a sole source provider.
DISCUSSION:
Council will discuss approving Resolution No. 2025-200, approving the purchase of firefighter bunker gear from Casco Industries, Inc. Staff will be available to answer any questions the Council may have.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Fiscal impacts in the amount of $129,700 were approved as part of the FY 2025-2026 Budget.
