BACKGROUND:

The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) authorized the issuance of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Request for Applications (RFA). MVCPA is authorized in statute to provide grants to local law enforcement to combat motor vehicle theft, burglary from a motor vehicle, and/or fraud-related motor vehicle crime.

 

This grant requires a 20% cash match. The grant submission deadline is April 18, 2025.

 

DISCUSSION:

With this grant application, the Police Department will maintain current FLOCK cameras and related software and purchase the FLOCK drones as first Responders. These cameras and the related software will assist with detecting stolen vehicles and wanted individuals, including catalytic converter thefts.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% reimbursement up to $280,000, with a 20% cash match required. The match of $70,000 is budgeted in the FY 2024/25 General Fund operating budget for the Police Department.
