BACKGROUND:
In FY 2025-2026, the Fire Department budgeted $77,562 for 93 NFPA 1582-compliant wellness and fitness exams for the Farmers Branch Fire Department staff.
The NFPA 1582 physicals are thorough exams and fitness evaluations for Fire Department personnel to ensure they are physically healthy and capable of performing their duties. The standard aims to reduce the risk of fire service-related illnesses and deaths while enhancing the safety and effectiveness of firefighters and addressing the medical concerns of current members.
The medical evaluation of a current member includes a review of their medical history, a physical examination, and necessary laboratory tests to identify physical or medical conditions that could impair their ability to safely perform the essential job tasks outlined in NFPA 1582.
These exams have been administered by Life Scan in recent years. For continuity of care, the use of the same vendor is being proposed.
DISCUSSION:
Council will consider approving Resolution No. 2025-202, authorizing an agreement with Life Scan for fitness and well exams for the Farmers Branch Fire Department. Staff will be available for any questions the Council may have.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The budgeted amount of $77,562 was approved in the FY 2025-2026 Budget.
