Title

Conduct a public hearing and schedule the adoption of a maximum property tax rate of $0.608512; and take appropriate action.

Body

REQUESTOR:

Finance Department

BACKGROUND:

In compliance with the State Property Tax Code, the City Council passed a motion during the August 18, 2026, City Council meeting proposing that the City consider approving a maximum property tax rate of $0.608512 for deliberation purposes. No tax rate was adopted at that meeting.

The proposed maximum rate establishes the highest property tax rate the City Council may consider during the budget adoption process. It was set to provide flexibility as the Council evaluates public input, service priorities, and other initiatives that may affect the Proposed Fiscal Year 2026-27 Budget presented on July 31, 2026.

Notice of the proposed maximum property tax rate was published in The Dallas Morning News on August 28, 2026.

DISCUSSION:

The final budget, ratification of the tax revenue increase reflected in the budget, and property tax rate adoption are scheduled to take place on September 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the City of Farmers Branch, City Hall Council Chambers, located at 13000 William Dodson Parkway, Farmers Branch.

The public hearing will proceed as follows:

1.                     The Mayor will open the public hearing.

3.                     The hearing will be closed. City Council discussion will follow.
