Body
BACKGROUND:
The proposal and scope of work align with our Strategic Objective, aiming to attain the highest safety and security standards. To meet this objective, staff budgeted to replace the Fire Station Number 3 bay doors during the current fiscal year. Presently, the Fire Station Number 3 bay doors fall short of the industry standards, opening at a rate of 24 inches every two seconds instead of the recommended 24 inches per second. Rectifying this will elevate our ability to assist and serve our citizens more effectively. Next fiscal year, staff plans to replace Fire Station Number 1 bay doors.

Additionally, the existing doors are equipped with plexiglass that has become significantly cloudy, impeding visibility compared to other stations utilizing tempered glass. In addition to visibility issues, the doors have sustained damage from impacts, resulting in noticeable dents. The cumulative operational costs incurred due to these malfunctions, exacerbated by the age and condition of the doors, have surpassed the expenses associated with replacing these doors. The cost estimate for replacing the front bay doors is $82,291.

The rear doors segment of the project involves salvaging plexiglass to replace essential glass that has deteriorated over time. The labor cost of $4,191 encompasses removing, replacing, and disposing of unnecessary glass, ensuring a thorough and efficient enhancement to the rear bay doors.
