Body
REQUESTOR:
Public Works Department
BACKGROUND:
In September 2009, the City of Farmers Branch entered into a fifteen-year Camelot Landfill Gas Purchase Agreement with Waste Management Renewable Energy, L.L.C., which has notified the City that it does not wish to extend the agreement at the end of its term. However, the company is willing to continue service on a month-to-month basis until the City selects a new developer for the Camelot Landfill.
The City has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for landfill-gas-to-pipeline developers. The Public Works Department is currently interviewing qualified respondents and will present a recommended developer at the February City Council meeting.
Waste Management Renewable Energy, L.L.C. has indicated that a three-month transition period will be required before the new developer assumes operational responsibility.
DISCUSSION:
The Public Works Department has secured a first amendment to the Camelot Landfill Gas Purchase Agreement, establishing a month-to-month contract that allows Waste Management Renewable Energy, L.L.C. to continue the project until a new developer is selected.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact on the budget. This contract generates, on average, $30,000 in monthly revenue for the City.
