Title

Discuss rebate programs

Body

BACKGROUND:

The Sustainability Committee has recommended two water rebate programs that have been created. These programs have the goal of reducing water usage both indoors and outdoors. The first is a toilet rebate program that provides a rebate for residents of older homes to swap out their toilets with more efficient models. The other program is an irrigation check-up program which provides a rebate for residents to have a licensed irrigator inspect their irrigation system to identify methods for water conservation.

Rebate programs are also offered through external organizations such as Atmos, Oncor, and Dallas County. These programs are promoted by the City.

Other programs have been suggested, including a rebate for the installation of a hot water recirculating pump and a rebate for planting a tree in a resident’s yard.

The committee will receive an update on the implementation of existing programs and discuss potential programs to be added in the future. The committee will consider environmental benefit, financial value, and resident participation in their discussions.
