BACKGROUND:
May is nationally recognized as Older Americans Month. This year's theme is "Unleash the Power of Age!" The Senior Advisory Board and Parks and Recreation Department staff request that the City Council proclaim May as Older Americans Month in Farmers Branch, which will help make the public aware of the popular ways senior citizens can pursue their leisure and volunteer interests.
DISCUSSION:
May events are designed to promote an awareness of the opportunities available to senior citizens. The following activities will be offered in May at the Senior Center:
* Internet Travel Agent computer class, Wednesdays, May 1 & 8, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
* May breakfast, Monday, May 6, 8:15 a.m.
* Computer Greeting Card class, Tuesday, May 7, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
* Random Acts of Kindness, Thursday, May 9, 10:00 a.m.
* Birthday Celebration Luncheon, Wednesday, May 15, noon
* Texas Hold'em tournament, Thursday, May 16, 1:00 pm.
* Spud and Show, movie is Lincoln, Tuesday, May 28, 11:30 a.m., $2.00
* Band dances Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. except Memorial Day, May 27
