BACKGROUND:
The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) authorized the issuance of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Request for Applications (RFA). MVCPA is authorized in statute to provide grants to local law enforcement to combat motor vehicle theft, burglary from a motor vehicle, and/or fraud-related motor vehicle crime.
The City has been awarded a grant in the amount of $240,000, with a City match of $60,000, for a total grant award in the amount of $300,000. As this is a joint grant, the City of Farmers Branch and the City of Carrollton will split the required City match at $30,000 each.
DISCUSSION:
With this grant application, the Police Department will maintain current FLOCK cameras and related software and purchase the FLOCK drones as first responders. These cameras and the related software will assist with detecting stolen vehicles and wanted individuals, including catalytic converter thefts.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Grant award of $240,000 with a City match of $30,000 from the City of Farmers Branch. This amount has been budgeted for FY 2026.
