Title

Discuss City of Farmers Branch Housing Redevelopment Strategy: Establishing a unified, citywide approach to sustainable and equitable redevelopment.

Body

REQUESTOR:

City Management

BACKGROUND:

Since the inception of the Neighborhood Renaissance Program, the City of Farmers Branch has invested in the purchase of residential lots in targeted areas, including Branch Crossing and the Valwood area. While these investments have resulted in some neighborhood revitalization, they have been implemented in a district-driven manner, without the guidance of a comprehensive citywide housing strategy.

Current challenges include:

o                     No unified housing policy or strategic framework

o                     Lack of defined affordability or workforce housing goals

o                     Zoning Considerations

o                     Absence of measurable performance metrics to assess impact

DISCUSSION:

The City of Farmers Branch has a critical opportunity to transform scattered residential assets into a unified strategy that delivers long-term economic, social, and community returns. Implementing a cohesive housing redevelopment strategy, grounded in planning, equity, and measurable outcomes, will ensure that redevelopment decisions support not only short-term goals but also the sustainable growth and vitality of the entire City. This initiative will deliver diverse economic, social, and community benefits, supporting the City’s long-term vitality and alignment with strategic growth priorities.
