BACKGROUND:
Six bids meeting specifications for the 2012-2013 Annual Concrete Repairs Project were received and opened on February 26, 2013. All bids were based on a unit price basis and project locations, with estimated quantities used for the base bid. Included in this project is construction of a bike trail from Valley View Lane to Brookhaven Club Drive along Marsh Lane. The bike trail will replace the existing asphalt pathway. Josey Lane from Valley View Lane to Valwood Parkway will be rehabilitated with this project and Dallas County will be contributing to this portion through the Road & Bridge Fund.
DISCUSSION:
The lowest bid was submitted by Jim Bowman Construction Company L.P. in the amount of $686,740. Jim Bowman Construction Company L.P. has performed similar projects in the past and is qualified to construct these improvements. Funds for the project are included in the Public Works Operating Budget, the Capital Improvement Program DART Local Assistance Program and funding from Dallas County.
This unit price contract is related to Core Value #5, which is to provide functional, sustainable and well maintained infrastructure facilities and equipment.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends approving Resolution No. 2013-018 authorizing a unit price contract for the Annual Concrete Repairs Project with Jim Bowman Construction Company.
