BACKGROUND:
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) eligible projects are projects that improve and maintain existing low-to-moderate income neighborhoods and eliminate community-threatening conditions. Examples of eligible projects include water and sewer replacements, road projects, park rehabilitation, and sidewalk projects.

Two areas of the City meet the qualifications for the required low-to-moderate income standard for CDBG funds. One area is generally bounded by Valwood Parkway, Josey Lane, Dennis Lane, Valley View Lane, and Denton Drive. The other area is bounded by Hollandale Lane, Dennis Lane, Valwood Parkway and Josey Lane.

For Fiscal Year (FY) 2013, the City of Farmers Branch is eligible to receive $96,755.00 in CDBG funds from Dallas County. This amount, along with the unspent balance of approximately $15,772.68 from the FY 2011 CDBG project brings the total available funds for the FY 2013 CDBG project to $112,527.68.

DISCUSSION:
Due to a delay in the Federal allocation of CDBG funds to Counties, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Dallas County approved a shortened schedule this year and required Cities to submit projects in an expedited manner. The City of Farmers Branch submitted an application for a project for FY 2013 for the reconstruction of approximately 400 feet of Wasina Drive between Dennis Lane and Hearthstone Drive.
