BACKGROUND:
The Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) was founded over 77 years ago and is the major organization in Texas for Parks and Recreation professionals. Each year the State recognizes and honors individuals and organizations that made outstanding contributions to the field of parks and recreation.

At the recent TRAPS state conference, two Parks and Recreation Department employees won awards.

Pam Smith is the City's Landscape Manager and Pam was awarded with the prestigious Honorary Life Member award. Eligibility requirements include contributing no less than 10 years to the advancement of parks and recreation; being actively involved in TRAPS for at least five years; responsible for exemplary advancement of the profession; and contributions to the promotion and advancement of TRAPS.

Pam Smith has been a key player in advancing roses in Farmers Branch. Pam's excellent work in this area has been recognized not just locally, state and nationwide, but internationally as well. Pam designs the landscapes throughout the City and is the key staff member working with the Community Garden. She is also heavily involved with the John Burke Nature Preserve and with numerous community service projects throughout the City. Pam has worked hard and has tremendous enthusiasm for all things parks and recreation. She is truly deserving of this honor and we are glad she is part of the Farmers Branch team.

JD Arnold won the back pack blower competition in our regional equipment rodeo and took second place in that event at the recent statewide equipment rodeo. JD is a positive individual with a can do attitude that shows in all that he does. JD's positive influence can be seen around town in the quality of our parks and landscapes.
