Consider approving Resolution No. 2015-072 adopting a Citywide Trail Master Plan for the City of Farmers Branch and take appropriate action.

BACKGROUND:
As part of the City’s Strategic Plan, development of a Citywide Trails Master Plan (The Plan) was begun in fall of 2014. A consultant, Dunaway and Associates, was retained to lead the project and complete The Plan.
DISCUSSION:
The intent of The Plan is to create a system of trails that can be utilized to move throughout the City, and points beyond, without the need to use a vehicle. The Plan will result in expanded opportunities to ride bicycles or walk throughout the City. The network will ultimately connect the eastside to the westside; neighborhoods to DART, the Recreation and Aquatic Centers, and the Library; and Farmers Branch to surrounding cities.
During the process of creating The Plan, input was received from the public through various meetings and the City’s website. A task force of citizens, board members, and City Administration, along with Dallas County and Council of Governments representatives met numerous times to gather information, review and comment while forming and ultimately creating The Plan.
The Plan is now ready to be presented to City Council for adoption. An adopted Trail Master Plan will guide future trail development and will increase the probability of receiving grant funding specifically for trail development.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended motion by City Administration to approve Resolution No. 2015-072 adopting the Citywide Trail Master Plan for the City of Farmers Branch.
