Consider authorizing the City Manager to take the necessary action to implement a recent compensation study recommendation to move Police and Fire sworn employee salaries to median of cities surveyed effective September 1, 2016; and take appropriate action.

 

Body

BACKGROUND:

At the August 9, 2016, City Council budget workshop meeting, Council directed the City Manager to move forward with a compensation plan that would allow the Police and Fire sworn employees to be brought up to median salary ranges effective September 1, 2016, with the remainder of the compensation study implementation on October 1, 2016.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

City Administration recommends City Council authorize the City Manager to implement a compensation plan that would allow sworn Police and Fire personnel to be brought up to median salaries based on the recent compensation plan effective September 1, 2016.

 

POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:

1. I move to approve authorizing the City Manager to take the necessary action to implement a recent compensation study recommendation to move Police and Fire sworn employee salaries to median of cities surveyed effective September 1, 2016.

2. I move to approve authorizing the City Manager to take the necessary action to implement a recent compensation study recommendation to move Police and Fire sworn employee salaries to median of cities surveyed effective September 1, 2016, with modifications.

3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
