BACKGROUND:
Rotary International was founded on February 23, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois US and is the world’s first and one of the largest non-profit service organizations. There are over 1.2 million Rotary club members comprised of professional and business leaders in over 32,000 clubs in 200 countries and geographic areas. The Rotary motto “Service Above Self” inspires members to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and promote good will and peace in the world. The Farmers Branch Rotary Club was founded in October of 1986 and has made significant volunteer, vocational, and monetary contributions to address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment in the City of Farmers Branch, our surrounding communities, and abroad. As a result, the Honorable Mayor Bob Phelps will name Tuesday, October 18, 2016 as Farmers Branch Rotary Day in the City of Farmers Branch.
