Body

BACKGROUND:

Andy Gillies has been a professional planner since 1985, beginning his career with the Warren County Planning Commission shortly after graduating from Texas A&M University with a master’s degree in urban planning.  Andy began his employment with the City of Farmers Branch in December of 2006 as the City Planner.  In 2010 Andy was named Director of Planning and in April of 2014 he was promoted to Director of Community Services.  In that role, Andy is responsible for Planning and Zoning projects and overseeing Building Inspection, Permitting, Code Enforcement and Animal Services.

Andy is certified with the American Institute of Certified Planners and has served in a variety of leadership roles in such organizations as the American Planning Association, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, Congress for New Urbanism and the Royal Order of the Moose.

Andy is widely known for his dry sense of humor.  As evidence, he was recently voted “Most Interesting Planner in the World”.  Andy is married to his wife Becky of 34 years and in his leisure time enjoys sailing and spending time with his two children.  Andy cares about people and it shows as his department delivers exceptional customer service.  He is definitely an asset to the City of Farmers Branch.
