Consider and discuss the Farmers Branch 2017 Legislative Platform; and take appropriate action.

BACKGROUND:
The Legislative Platform was developed on key legislative principles, which utilize information from the Texas Municipal League and the City’s Legislative Consultant, Mr. Fred. Hill. These principles are listed below.
Principle No.1 - Maintain municipal authority regarding local government revenue sources.
Principle No.2 - Maintain municipal authority over municipal land use issues.
Principle No.3 - Maintain municipal authority in determining how best to operate a city. (local control)
All of the items listed in the Legislative Platform are consistent with one of these three principles. A detailed Legislative Platform is important in helping make sure the Mayor and City Council and staff are aligned and have clear direction on the City’s position on legislative proposals.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends City Council discuss and consider support of the Farmers Branch 2017 Legislative Platform, as presented.
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to approve the Farmers Branch 2017 Legislative Platform, as presented.
2. I move to approve the Farmers Branch 2017 Legislative Platform, with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
