Body
BACKGROUND:

The Farmers Branch Fire Department has been awarded a grant in the amount of $102,375.78 from the Metrocrest Hospital Authority, to purchase medical equipment that will be used to increase our community's survival rate from cardiac arrest. The grant will purchase four LUCAS Chest Compression Systems. The LUCAS device is a mechanical device that provides perfect CPR to a patient no matter how the patient is being carried. This is critically important as the Fire Department often has to move patients through tight spaces, down stairwells, in elevators, or preform CPR in the back of a moving ambulance. Each of these instances negatively impacts the effectiveness of manual CPR; however, the LUCAS device's CPR is not impaired. The grant will also purchase a Lifepak 15 cardiac monitor-defibrillator. This advanced medical device will be carried on M-134, allowing all four Fire Department ambulances to be fully equipped and be able to be deployed simultaneously.
The Fire Department would like to thank the Metrocrest Hospital Authorities Board of Directors and their CEO Charles Heath for the generous donation and their commitment to the residents of Farmers Branch health and safety.
