Title
Consider approving Resolution No. 2017-030 authorizing the City Manager to purchase Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems and implementation services for the City Hall data center and the Emergency Operations Center in an amount totaling $142,079 from Anixter, Inc.; and take appropriate action.
Body
BACKGROUND:
In order to ensure the operation of our critical technology infrastructure during a power outage or power surge, the City has a need to procure two (2) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. One of the systems, which will consist of two physical units, would replace the existing UPS in the City Hall data center and the other would be a new implementation of a single system at the Emergency Operations Center, located in the Fire Administration building.

DISCUSSION:
A UPS system is a piece of critical infrastructure in any data center and offers a backup power supply in the event of a power surge or loss. Its most important function, however, is to offer protection for sensitive equipment contained in the data center in the event of a power surge or outage, and to prevent a loss of data if power is disrupted. In the event that the City experiences a loss of power, the UPS would provide emergency power that would keep our critical information systems up and running until the building generator begins operating.
City Hall Data Center: The City currently has a 10-year-old Liebert UPS system installed in the City Hall data center, which is used to provide a backup power supply to the mission critical server, data storage, telephony and network infrastructure.
This existing UPS system has experienced several significant malfunctions over the past year and a half, which is a major concern. Additionally, the current system uses antiquated technology and by design, has a single point of failure with no redundant components built in. These issues, along with the increasing demands and dependency on a UPS system necessitates the purchase of a replace...
