Presentation of a proclamation recognizing April 23, 2017, through April 29, 2017, as National Volunteer's Week and recognizing Historical Park Volunteers in the City of Farmers Branch.

Body
BACKGROUND:
The Historical Park could not operate without the assistance of its fantastic volunteers. Our volunteers cover every demographic: volunteers from CFB-ISD schools and local businesses, girl scout troops, retired citizens, even working professionals donate time from their busy careers and families to lend us a hand. These volunteers commit their valuable time out of love for our community and history.

Volunteers aid us in every aspect of Park operations; from answering the phones to donning a pair of historic suspenders or giving a tour, not to mention working behind the scenes on technical jobs with the museum's collection. They also plant seeds, pull weeds, sew, build, teach, and sometimes even dance. Through their love and dedication they bring 175 years of history to life and help to preserve what many of them consider to be the heart of Farmers Branch.

2016 was a banner year for Historical Park volunteering with:
o 4,408.5+ total hours volunteered
o 139 registered volunteers donated time in 2016
o The average volunteer donated 25+ hours of time each
o At $23.07 per hour (the amount recommended by the Independent Sector), that's over $101,000 in in-kind donations to the Historical Park.

We would like to take the opportunity of National Volunteer Week to thank the many volunteers who donated thousands of hours of time to the Historical Park in 2016.
