Body

BACKGROUND:

The Farmers Branch Police Association (FBPA) is a group of officers that have the primary mission of giving back to the community.  Their support includes food drives for the local food pantry, sponsoring an Angel Tree every year in support of a providing Christmas for a family in need and sponsoring other police department activities by donating time and money in support of the police department.  The FBPA also sponsors an annual Christmas Party for members and advocates for the officers in a myriad of different areas.

DISCUSSION:

Following the tragic shootings in Dallas of July 7, 2016, the Farmers Branch Police Association received donations from caring citizens who wanted to do something in support of their local police.  The donations were given to help enhance the safety of officers by purchasing whatever equipment might be needed.

If approved, the funds will be utilized to purchase additional safety equipment to benefit the officers.

RECOMMENDATION:

City Administration recommends accepting the donation of $2,700 to be used to purchase additional safety equipment for the officers.
