Title

Presentation of the Farmers Branch Fire Department’s 2017 Fire and Life Safety Excellence Award.

Body

BACKGROUND:

In February 2014, the Farmers Branch Fire and Life Safety Excellence Award was created to recognize a Farmers Branch building engineer who exemplifies the highest commitment to the protection of life and property by ensuring a safe work environment for citizens and emergency responders.

The building engineer is often the key liaison to the fire department in the event of building evacuations, annual fire prevention inspections, medical emergencies, and more importantly, during building construction and remodel projects.

An award nomination committee was selected, comprised of chief officers, to review an engineer’s past performance.  Nominees for this award were submitted to the awards nomination committee.  Each nomination was well deserving of this award, as they exemplified the skills and outstanding collaborative cohesiveness with city officials and fire prevention personnel.

The Farmers Branch Fire Department is very proud to announce Mr. Chris Flower as the recipient for the 2017 “Fire and Life Safety Excellence Award”.

Chris Flower is the Plant Operations Manager for Dallas Medical Center, located at 7 Medical Pkwy.  Mr. Flower has been in the industry for over 25 years, and has been working for Dallas Medical Center for 18 years.  Chris currently spends most of his time maintaining a 6-story, high rise building within the City of Farmers Branch.

Mr. Flower has promoted life safety of going beyond for the ownership, hospital staff, volunteers and visitors.  He coordinates annual fire and life safety training and stays in constant communication with the City of Farmers Branch Fire Department.

Chris carries a contractor license in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.  Chris is also a member of NFPA and is a member of the Texas Hospital Association of Engineers.  He is scheduled to take his test certification to become a Certified Hospital Facility Manager.

Chris has been instrumental in helping to redesign an energy efficient retrofit/replacement of the mechanical system infrastructure.  Chris has worked closely with the design engineers and mechanical company to help maximize the utility efficiencies for the hospital.  This will provide redundancy, efficiency and will maximize the comfort for the patients, physicians and staff.

Chris’s dedication, attention to detail, experience and professionalism is the main reason why Dallas Medical Center is in operation today.  His trustworthiness and dedication to his role is unmatchable.  He has a deep passion and commitment to his employer and community and shows in his dedication to his profession.  Chris’s pursuit of excellence always comes with a smile on his face.

Chris also is very involved in the community.  Chris has been a member of our past Citizen Fire Academy.  He wanted to learn all aspects of what the Farmers Branch Fire Department is capable of doing to provide the safety and security for the citizens, visitors and businesses through progressive public safety programs.  Chris is looking forward to attending the grand opening of the Metrocrest Fire Training Tower Facility on August 12, 2017 at the Farmers Branch Fire Station #3 site and having the opportunity to tour the facility.

You can see Chris cycling to and from work each day greeting individuals and welcoming others to the community.  While cycling, Chris commonly assist others with vehicle problems or flat tires and will stay with them until help arrives.  This represents the type of individual that cares for people, the community, and his employer.

Chris is a steady, dedicated servant to his profession and puts the operation of the building and its life safety systems as the highest priority, ensuring the safety of all occupants.

The Farmers Branch Fire Department recognizes Chris Flower for his diligence and commitment to the protection of life and property at Dallas Medical Center in the City of Farmers Branch.
