Title

Receive an overview of the Regional Mobility 2040 Plan from representatives with the North Central Texas Council of Government.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) coordinates with cities, counties and transportation partners to plan road, transit, bicycle and pedestrian transportation improvements for North Texas.  As the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, NCTCOG is required to maintain a long-term transportation plan that defines a vision for the region’s multimodal transportation system and guide expenditures of state and federal transportation funds during the next 20 plus years.  The Metropolitan Plan is a comprehensive, multimodal “blueprint” for transportation systems and services aimed at meeting the mobility needs of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area through the next 20+ years.  Mobility 2040, the latest iteration of the long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), identifies transportation solutions that offer the region's residents with travel choices. Providing a variety of transportation options now and into the future is essential to creating a high quality of life in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Mobility 2040 is the product of a comprehensive, cooperative, and continuous planning effort. Mobility 2040 was adopted by the Regional Transportation Council in March 2016.

Kevin Feldt and Kevin Kokes with the North Central Texas Council of Governments will provide an overview of the Mobility 2040 MTP and the pending Mobility 2045 MTP.  NCTCOG guides expenditures of state and federal transportation funding via grants. In addition, their presentation will touch on the importance of cities adopting policies that are in line with the regional transit plan (handouts will be available). Staff needs policy guidance from City Council regarding adherence to the plans objectives.
