Title

Presentation of a service award to Ross Pittman for twenty five years (25) of service in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Body

BACKGROUND:

Ross Pittman began his career with the Parks and Recreation Department as a Park Laborer 1 December 12, 1992.  He promoted to a Crew Leader in 1995.  Ross broadened his skill set and became an Irrigation Specialist in 1997.  He was promoted once again and has been a Park Maintenance Supervisor since 2002.  Ross manages four crews and is responsible for landscapes, irrigation, playgrounds, tennis courts and mowing of parks, medians and rights-of-way.

Ross has grown up working in the City of Farmers Branch and he has been heavily involved with many special projects during his tenure.  He installed irrigation systems at the Historical Park, Oran Good Playground, Oran Good softball fields and Cox soccer fields.  He and his crew installed irrigation at the Senior Center, Temple Trails and Morningstar Parks.  Ross supervised and worked along his crews during installation of the Rotary Playground at Gussie Field Watterworth Park and the recent playground renovation at Kerr Park.

Ross has been actively involved in planning and operation of numerous special events including the Christmas Tour of Lights, the Tree Lighting and Fish-n-Fun.  He is one of the creepiest ghouls wandering around the Hunted Hedge at Halloween in the Park. Ross is big and strong and was called on to manhandle the large boulders that went in the landscape at the Police Department’s Courtyard.  Ross is a huge asset to the Parks and Recreation team; he works hard, has a big heart and always gives 100 percent.

When Ross is not at work, he enjoys camping with his wife Mandy and daughters Hailey and Anna. They like to spend time with his Father at his ranch.  Ross and his family are active at their church and he is known to make a mean pulled pork or brisket with his buddies, the Holy Smokers.
