Title

Presentation of a service award pin to City Manager Charles Cox for twenty-five years of service to the City of Farmers Branch.

Body

BACKGROUND:

Charles Cox began his career with Farmers Branch in 1993 as the Director of Finance, after serving seven years in the same position in Haltom City.  He held the Director of Finance position for 20 years, promoting to Managing Director of Administration in 2013. He was appointed City Manager in 2016.

A 1983 graduate of Texas Christian University, Charles earned his Masters in Business Administration at SMU in 1991. He has held leadership positions in the Government Finance Officers of America and Government Finance Officers of Texas organizations. The Farmers Branch Finance Department has been honored dozens of times under his leadership for excellence in financial reporting and government transparency. In 1999, Charles traveled to Washington D.C. to receive the Innovations in American Government Award, bestowed on the City by the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In 2011, The Dallas Business Journal named him of the top 21 Chief Financial Officers in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

There are many ways to describe the wonder that is Charles, but perhaps it is best to say that he is the heartbeat of our organization.   He challenges everyone to be better, acts and responds fairly, and models leadership at every turn.  We are fortunate to have him, and as the City of Farmers Branch continues to move faster and grow, we know our journey will be marked by success under the city management tenure of Charles Cox.
