Presentation of the SAVES Recognition Award to Officer Jose Cortes from Point Blank Enterprises.

BACKGROUND:
On December 26, 2017, at approximately 11:40 pm, Officer Jose Cortes made a traffic stop in the 2800 block of Valley View Lane. During the traffic stop Officer Cortes asked the female passenger to step out the vehicle so that he could speak with her. Shortly after exiting the vehicle, the female produced a 9mm handgun and shot Officer Cortes in the chest. His Point Blank Body Armor stopped the bullet from penetrating to his body and Officer Cortes was able to return fire stopping the immediate threat to Officer Cortes’s life. It is doubtful that Officer Cortes would have survived this deadly encounter if not for him wearing this life saving body armor.
