Title
Presentation of the Farmers Branch Fire Department’s Award of Exemplary Action to 9 year-old Michaias Griffin for helping save the life of his mother on the morning of January 31, 2018.
Body
BACKGROUND:
At 0615 on the morning of January 31, 2018 9 year old Michaias Griffin found his mother unconscious, laying in the hallway of their home. On his own Michaias called 9-1-1 from his cell phone and was able to give the NTECC dispatcher his name, address and the nature of his mother’s medical emergency.
On arrival of the Fire Department, our Firefighter/Paramedics found Michaias still on the line and talking with our NTECC dispatcher in a calm and controlled manner.
Michaias provided our paramedics detailed background information about his mother, allowing for quick and effective treatment of the patient. Without Michaias’ quick thinking and calm nature, his mother would not be here today.
Not only was Michaias a hero that morning, but at 2109 that evening he was a hero once again. That night his mother suffered a second medical emergency. Michaias found her unresponsive in her bed, and as he did that morning, he called 9-1-1 saving her life a second time.
