Title

Presentation of the Farmers Branch Fire Department’s Award of Exemplary Action to 6 year-old Olivia Aldridge for helping save the life of her grandfather on the evening of January 20, 2018.

Body

BACKGROUND:

On January 20, 2018 Olivia Aldridge and her grandfather, Tom Sewell, were home alone. That evening, her grandfather was outside using the grill. When he came inside he began feeling light headed, then suddenly he blacked out. When he awoke, he was lying on the ground in a puddle of blood caused by a large head wound that he suffered in the fall.

Tom also found his granddaughter, Livy, sitting calmly by his side. He instructed her to go outside, find a neighbor and bring them back to him. Livy, who is 6 years old, did just that. She found a neighbor and brought him back to the house where he then called 9-1-1 to summon aid.

On arrival at the scene of the emergency, our Firefighter/Paramedics were incredibly impressed with how Livy handled herself in the presence of her injured grandfather. Remaining calm in a situation like this is difficult for most adults, let alone a 6 year-old.

Livy’s actions that night in securing the needed assistance for her grandfather most certainly helped save his life.
