BACKGROUND:

Amanda Johnson began work for the City of Farmers Branch as an Administrative Assistant for the Communications and Economic Development Departments in May of 1998. Along the way she transitioned into full time support for the Communications Office and has evolved her skillset during that time to become extremely focused on the City's Internet and social media presence. She acts as the City's primary website administrator and has been project manager on every website and Intranet redesign during the past 10 years. In addition to her online efforts, Amanda works as primary scheduler for FBTV, a producer on our City Council broadcasts, a key member of the Internal Communications working team and the primary layout artist for the City's digital marquee at the Manske Library - among many other hats, depending on the project, the day or time of year.

Because of these very specific skills developed over time, just last month, Amanda was reclassified from an Administrative Assistant to a Communications Specialist.

Through the past 20 years, Amanda credits four Mayors, five City Managers and double-digits in Councilmembers for their ongoing and steadfast support for the Communications Office and their efforts. She has also praised the City's leadership through the years for enabling her, as a single Mom of two kids (and now, two grandkids), to maintain a healthy and successful work/life balance.

Today, she is one of two remaining staff members still working in the City Manager's Office Suite from 1998 and is happy and proud to still be there. While committed to the Communications Office, Amanda is also cognizant of her role in the City Manager's Office and, on more than one occasion, has voluntarily come in on previously scheduled time off to be certain the office is effectively staffed.
