Title
Receive an update regarding the Planning and Zoning Commission quarterly update presentation to City Council on August 21, 2018.

Body
BACKGROUND:
At the City Council study session meeting on August 21, 2018, Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman David Moore presented the Commission's quarterly update presentation. Overall the presentation was well received by the Council.

City Council concurred with the items presented as part of the Commission's 2018 work plan (see attachment) which has been revised to align with Council's strategic initiatives and critical business outcomes for FY2018-19.

Other items discussed included:
* Future Commission retreat - potential topics that might be discussed (i.e. timing of retreat and how it relates to the future IH-35 corridor study; permeable pavement; corridor studies that other cities have completed; general planning topics of interest; tours of various developments within the area).
* IH-35 Corridor - timing associated with interim zoning amendments due to the Light Industrial zoning that exists in some areas and how that may impact the future corridor vision.
* Board configuration - feedback from the Commission regarding the current structure of eight members, and transitioning to seven regular members plus two alternates in order to use the alternate positions for training and grooming future leaders.
* Allowing alternate exterior building materials - discussed this is still on the Commission's work plan but lower on the list of priorities given other Council directives.
* Minimizing the number of Planned Development (PD) districts - possibly consider reducing the number of PD's, as well as updating or replacing PD's that may be much older and are no longer relevant for today.

Additionally, Council expressed sincere appreciation for all Commission members attending the mandatory training in July/August 2018.
