Title

Presentation and discussion regarding development of a Dog Park

Body

BACKGROUND:

A Dog Park has been a topic of discussion for the past few years.  It was the most often made comment on the last citizen’s survey.  It was included on the list of critical business outcomes.

DISCUSSION:

Staff has been working with a Parks and Recreation Board Task Force on design of a Dog Park.  The location of the Dog Park is on what is currently the Barney Wood Athletic Complex football field adjacent to the Recreation Center.  Originally, the Barney Wood Athletic Complex included a tee ball field and football field.  The tee ball field was converted into the Skate Park when the Aquatics Center was constructed.   Now, with repurposing the football field the Parks and Recreation Board recommends calling the dog park, “The Barney Wood Bark Park”.

The Parks and Recreation Board recommends going forward with the dog park as designed.  With the approval of City Council staff will begin installation of the dog park and will bring a resolution to a future meeting for the name change.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The current fiscal year budget includes $236,000 for this project.
