Body

BACKGROUND:

Following the recommendations of the City Council approved Trail Master Plan in 2015, staff has been actively working on multiple fronts regarding trail projects in Farmers Branch.  From the east side along Inwood Road to the western city limit line with Irving, a variety of trail projects are under design or construction.  The east side of Farmers Branch, with the ongoing and proposed residential development, holds tremendous potential to increase the walkability of the city in that area.  Connecting the east side to the central area across Midway Road is a challenge, however.  A Request for Qualifications was developed and disseminated to potential consultants to design a pedestrian crossing for Midway Road.  The central area of the city will receive enhanced sidewalks and trails increasing walkable connections within the city.  A Request for Qualifications was developed and disseminated to potential consultants to design the sidewalk and trail locations based on the recommendations of the Trail Master Plan.  The connection from the central area to west side of the city will be the West Side Art Trail.  Trail consultant Kimley Horn will present the alignment and challenges faced during the project.
