Consider approving the Farmers Branch 2019 Legislative Platform; and take appropriate action

BACKGROUND:
The Legislative Platform was developed on key legislative principles necessary to protect and benefit the residents of Farmers Branch. These principles are listed below.
Principle No.1 - Maintain municipal authority regarding local government revenue sources.
Principle No.2 - Maintain municipal authority over municipal land use issues.
Principle No.3 - Maintain municipal authority in determining how best to operate a city (local control).
All of the items listed in the Legislative Platform are consistent with one of these three principles. A detailed Legislative Platform is important in helping make sure the Mayor and City Council and staff are aligned and have clear direction on the City’s position on legislative proposals.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends City Council discuss and consider support of the Farmers Branch 2019 Legislative Platform, as presented.
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to approve the Farmers Branch 2019 Legislative Platform, as presented.
2. I move to approve the Farmers Branch 2019 Legislative Platform, with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
