Recognize Maria Minter for 20 years of service to the City of Farmers Branch

BACKGROUND:
Maria Minter has been a full time team member with the Parks and Recreation Department for 20 years, since March 25, 1999. She has four additional years of history as she began with the City as a part time Youth Program Leader in 1995.
Her full time employment began as a Recreation Programmer at the old Don Showman Recreation Center. In this capacity Maria was responsible for youth programs including the award winning Summer Funshine Program and the After School Program as well as planning and management of various special events. In 2012 Maria was promoted to Athletic Program Coordinator where she worked with the various youth and adult athletic organizations, coordinated field maintenance, and recruited and managed various athletic tournaments.
In 2014 Maria was promoted to Recreation Center Manager. In this capacity Maria is responsible for the overall operation of the Center and all related programs including youth programs, special events, fitness, rental activities, athletics, gymnasium related league play, and a wide array of programming from fine arts to personal training. Maria is passionate about what we do and it shows in how she serves every day.
Away from work Maria is a strong supporter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She has raised over $25,000 for that group in memory of her sister in law, and Farmers Branch resident, Stephanie Shaw Henkel. As part of the Team In Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society she has competed in over 2 dozen half and full marathons, one ultra marathon (50 k or 31 miles) and numerous long distance cycling events. She has also helped numerous others cross finish lines as a coach for Team In Training.
