Consider approving Resolution No. 2019-126 authorizing the City of Farmers Branch to utilize the Dallas County’s voting system in election(s); and take appropriate action

BACKGROUND:
The Dallas County Election’s Department has purchased election voting tabulation systems (Universal Voting Systems) which allows voters to vote at any location in Dallas County for early voting and Election Day voting. Texas Election Code §123.001 requires the governing body to adopt by Resolution the voting system to be used in its elections.
DISCUSSION:
The new universal voting system offered by Dallas County will increase accessibility to polling places and provide Farmers Branch residents the convenience to vote at any location within Dallas County. This new system will eliminate voter confusion during Election Day. As a result, the City may see an increase in voter participation.

RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends the City Council approve Resolution No. 2019-126, to authorize the use of Dallas County universal voting equipment for all City Elections.
