Body

BACKGROUND:

Since January of 2016 the City has been using the 2015 International Building Code (IBC). Model construction codes such as the IBC are updated and re-published on a three-year cycle. Staff is recommending updating to the most current edition, the 2018 International Building Code. Some notable changes to the 2018 IBC are reduction in the occupant load factor for office occupancies, new provision addressing use of medical gas in higher education facilities and increased dead load values for deck and balconies. Currently, most of our neighboring municipalities have adopted and are enforcing the 2018 IBC with the exception of the City of Coppell and the Town of Addison.
