Consider adopting Ordinance No. 3609 amending Chapter 22, Article VII.7 of the Farmers Branch Code of Ordinances by adopting the 2018 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code with local amendments; and take appropriate action

BACKGROUND:
The City has been and is currently using the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code since January of 2016. Model construction codes such as the IECC are updated and re-published on a three-year cycle. Staff is recommending updating to the most current edition, the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code. Some notable changes to the 2018 IECC are revised interior and exterior lighting power budgets and better clarity regarding lighting controls. Also, mechanical provisions are now reorganized around equipment type rather than design methodology. Currently, most of our neighboring municipalities have adopted and are enforcing the 2018 IECC with the exception of the City of Coppell and the Town of Addison.

City Administration recommends adopting Ordinance No. 3609, as presented.
