BACKGROUND:
Staff has engaged Kimley-Horn to provide design services and costing estimates related to potential betterments for the Mayor’s IH-35E Betterments Task Force. Kimley-Horn will develop preliminary and final Conceptual Plans for the Valley View Lane and Valwood Parkway intersections, consisting of three design level options for consideration including a baseline plus option, a middle option, and an ultimate option. These Conceptual Plans will be based on:
• TxDOT IH-35E Design Guidelines (Urban Character) and highway design schematics;
• Initial intersection design feedback provided to TxDOT on March 31, 2020 and April 20, 2020;
• City Council’s goal to create a cultural arts district for the Station Area; and
• Input from the task force.
At the task force’s meeting on May 5, 2020, Kimley-Horn will provide an overview of similar past projects for discussion. Staff will provide an overview of the scope and timeline moving forward, with a goal of bringing recommendations from the task force forward to City Council at their July 14, 2020 meeting.
ACTIONS:
Provide feedback to Kimley-Horn to inform designs of the Valley View Lane and Valwood Parkway intersections.
