Title

Consider approving Resolution No. 2021-046 canvassing and declaring the election results of the May 1, 2021, General Election for Councilmember District 3 and District 5 and ordering a runoff election, if necessary; and take appropriate action

 

Body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Farmers Branch held a General Election on May 1, 2021 to elect a member to City Council District 3 and District 5. The proposed Resolution No. 2021-046 canvasses the results of the May 1, 2021 General Election. The two candidates receiving majority votes are as follows:

 

                     District 3 - Traci Williams

                     District 5 - David Merritt

 

The Mayor reads the canvass statement in Resolution No. 2021-046, which declares Traci Williams as duly elected to District 3 and David Merritt duly elected to District 5 City Council.

                     The City Council approves Resolution No. 2021-046, canvassing the election.

                     Mayor Dye notes that the City has received verbal notice of a recount for District 5. (No oath or certificate of election may be provided until after the final recount for this district.)

 

RECOMMENDATION:

City Administration recommends approving Resolution No. 2021-046 canvassing the election returns of the May 1, 2021 General Election, to elect a member to City Council District 3 and District 5.

 

ACTIONS:

1)                     Motion to approve Resolution No. 2021-046, as presented.

2)                     Motion to take no action.
